Police Atrocity Athens Demonstrations

by Zoe Mavroudi
”This photo taken last night in Athens outside the Polytechnic School shows students trying to escape a scene moments after riot cops charged against a peaceful gathering outside one of the school’s main gates. It was an entirely unprovoked police attack on a day of mass protests against the pre-emptive lock out of Universities around Greece, ordered days ahead of the anniversary of the 17 November, 1973 student revolt against the Greek junta. There are reports, video and photos of heavy beatings, tear gas and so-called stun grenades but this photo captures the essence of the situation probably more than any photo I’ve seen from Greek protests during the past few years. Protests will continue today.”
